A few older photos

William has refinished a few pieces of furniture over the past few months.  He has done an AWESOME job so I wanted to put it on here.

Dresser and side tables.  These were green (yes, I said green) before.  We got this set at a thrift store for $35 (yes, I said $35).  They look great in our bedroom and we got a mirror to match.

We also got a dining room table on craigslist that William stripped and stained and it looks beautiful!

We also got another dresser which William painted.  He wants to sell it but its so pretty.  I want to keep it! =)

Can’t see the forrest for the trees…

I don’t want to think about how many walnut trees died so that we could have beautiful floors.  Their death was not in vain.

Yesterday we made a VERY long trip to IKEA in Atlanta.  It was so fun, but so long.  We got some great stuff!!!  Two loveseats, a coffee table, a rug, and six dining room chairs!  Hooray!  I think I want to move the rug into the bedroom and get something bigger for the living room, but we can leave it there for now.

I put all this in one post since the furniture is in some of the pictures of the floors…

If I had a million dollars…

If I had a million dollars….I would pay someone to lay my floors.

Walnut-Black

Common names:            Black Walnut, American Walnut, pain in the a**

Scientific name:                 Juglans nigra

Explanation of scientific name:

Juglans – From the 2 Latin words “Jovis” meaning Jupiter and “glans” meaning nut.   The word is used most likely in reference to the ancient common name for walnut fruit:  nut of Jupiter.

nigra  – Latin for dark or black.

Just in time for the holidays

We started painting the dining room.  Once I realized how perfect it would be for Christmas, we decided to wait until after the holidays to finish.

Just kidding, we painted the top too!

The colors aren’t exactly accurate in the second picture.  You can tell in the top picture that the green is a little brighter.  It looks so pretty!  William picked it out and I had my doubts, especially after the door episode.

We also got a new light fixture.

It only took about 10 years to hang … my fault, my inability to accurately read directions caused a delay…  =)

PS – Our house is not messy, though it might look that way in the pictures… (William made me put that  =)   We were working in there for crying out loud!  Of course it is messy!  I will try and clean up before I take pictures in the future…)
